„Home of Grandfather’’ is the first tourist boarding house in the Pascani village, Manta commune , Cahul district, which provide tourist services. This is a family business, managed by the lazar family. The boarding house, placed in the Lower Prut Meadow, can host visitors at those 11 accommodation places at present.
Visitors are invited to enjoy traditional dishes and native wine at the restaurant and belvederes of the boarding house. The restaurant has a capacity of up to 60 people and the belvederes –up to 30 people. Due to the enhanced tourist potential, the Lazar family wished to extend the services and continue the tradition of production of the native wine, Rara Neagra, created according to the recipe of grandfather Gheorghe Lazar.
In 2021, the Lazar family got a grant worth 4,500 euros within the EU4Moldova- Focal Regions, financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The investment was directed to the arrangement of a rustic cellar and a room for tasting the Rara Neagra wine, purchasing the exterior furniture (benches, street lamps). In the same space, another five local producers of wines were invited to display their goods.
Thus, the Home of Grandfather boarding house becomes more attractive and the local authentic traditions are turned to good account.
The EU4Moldova- Focal Regions (2019-2024) programme supports the intelligent social and economic, inclusive and sustainable development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions, in order to provide the citizens with a better quality of life. The programme has an overall budget of 23 million euros, is financed by the European Union and is implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.
