Education Ministry Organizes Information Campaign in Taraclia for Prospective Students of Bulgarian Origin from Moldova

Chişinău, 5 feb. /BTA/. A delegation from the Bulgarian Education and Science Ministry organized an information campaign for prospective students of Bulgarian origin at the Vasil Levski youth centre in Taraclia. A similar campaign was held at the Vasil Levski lyceum in Chisinau.

The three-member delegation was welcomed by the Head of the Education Management in the region Lilia Sarsaman.

The rules for applying to higher education institutions in Bulgaria were presented in detail to the young people (12th grade) from the Taraclia region, which is populated by a majority of ethnic Bulgarians.  School students were informed what documents must be submitted and how to take exams, etc.

The coordinator of the campaign for students in Bulgaria from Moldova, Dr. Maria Delibaltova, said that there is currently a great interest in Bulgarian education from students from Taraclia, Gagauzia and Transnistria.

"Young people understand very well that after graduation they will get a European diploma, which gives them the opportunity to develop in more countries. According to the Bulgarian Education Ministry's Decree No. 103 they will study for free and receive a scholarship of BGN 240, it is possible that this amount could increase. In addition, the Bulgarian State provides Bulgarian students with a accomodation and a wide choice of majors. Here, especially in the South, children do not speak Romanian so well, while in Moldova, in almost all higher education institutions, lectures are held in the State language," Maria Delibaltova told BTA.

The guests mentioned that Taraclia State University will become a branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse.

Krasimir Andreev, culture and education advisor at the Bulgarian Embassy in Chisinau, said that places at the University's future branch are being negotiated with the Moldovan side for Moldovans who are not of Bulgarian origin, who can basically take advantage of the same conditions offered under Decree No. 103.

Bulgaria changed the rules for applying to State universities in the last school year. According to the new rules, prospective students from Moldova and Ukraine will take entrance exams on an equal basis with all other countries. The exams will be in the form of online tests.
