Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Romania has won the law suit with the Gabriel Resources enterprise on the case of situation at the Rosia Montana gold mine, following nine years of trial. Thus, the Romanian state will not have to pay any damage compensation to the company. Moreover, the claimants are obliged to reimburse to Romania the trial costs and the arbitration procedures plus the interest, which amounts to 9.4 million euros. The verdict was issued by the Washington-based International Commercial Arbitration Court on 8 March, according to Digi24.ro.
The leadership of Romania, including Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, welcomed the verdict in the case of Rosia Montana.
„We have won the Rosia Montana law suit! We fought for Romania, as it was unjust for each wage earner and pensioner of this country to be punished for the meanness of anti-Romanians! I thank the team of lawyers who represented Romania with professionalism, respect and honour! The Romanians must not suffer because of decisions by prime ministers who put the personal interests above the national interests!’’ PM Ciolacu wrote on social networks.
Also, the Romanian government officially informed that it wanted the publication of the full decision of the court. It is expected in the next 20 days.
