Moldovan judoka wins silver medal at Paralympic Games in Paris

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ - Judoka Ion Basoc has won silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris. He was defeated in the great final at the event J1 +90kg by Brazilian judoka Wilians Silva de Araujo.
The Moldovan sportsman qualified for the semifinals, after he had defeated French judoka Jason Grandry and in the quarterfinals – Daniel Knegt from the Netherlands.
President Maia Sandu conveyed a congratulatory message for Ion Basoc.
„Moldova has silver! Congratulations, Ion Basoc, on the title of Olympic champion in para-judo. We are grateful to you for perseverance and the incredible effort. We experience, with you, our sportspeople, coaches the joy of each victory and we thank you for these moments,’’ President Maia Sandu has written on her Facebook account.
Also today, judoka Oleg Cretu won the bronze medal.
Moldova’s delegation at the Paralympic Games in Paris is made up of five sportspeople who compete for medals at three events - para judo, para powerlifting and para athleticism.
