Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - The electoral discussions for the 20 October 2024 presidential elections started at the public stations Radio Moldova and Moldova 1 today. The first three candidates registered on the ballot paper were invited to the first edition.
It is about: Alexandr Stoianoglo, nominated by the Party of Socialists from Moldova (PSRM), Maia Sandu, candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and Renato Usatii, nominated by Our Party. Maia Sandu did not accept the invitation and did not take part in the electoral debates.
Shortly after the beginning of the discussions, Alexandr Stoianoglo said he left the programme, as he wanted discussions with Maia Sandu.
For his part, the candidate of Our Party, Renato Usatii, presented several priorities of his electoral programme.
„The only possibility to quickly solve the problems is for us to have a presidential republic, where the head of state is in charge of everything. In this way, the citizens’ problems will be heard and settled. For this, we can organize a referendum on the establishment of a presidential republic. I am the only candidate who has not been at rule. I come from the business environment; I was mayor of the Balti city, where I had a transparent work,’’ Renato Usatii said.
The candidate said he wanted a good cooperation with the neighbour countries and the priority is the vector of the national development. ‘’The European Union is the country’s basic partner; therefore, it is important that there are no foreign troops on the country’s territory. Dear citizens, on 20 October, I urge you to come to vote and vote just the heart tells you to do,’’ Renato Usatii said.
The electoral discussions for the presidential elections will be held in four rounds. The second round will take place on 10 October.
Presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union will take place in Moldova on 20 October.
Eleven candidates will compete for the office of head of state in all. The electoral campaign ends on 18 October 2024.
