ADR North director: Cities - important for country's economic growth, public authorities play key role in support and development

Chisinau, Oct 11 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova's experience in the implementation of urban development policy was presented at the 4th Congress on Urban and Regional Policy held this week in Krakow, Poland. The event was attended by directors of the North and Center Regional Development Agencies (ADR) and mayor of Edinet municipality. The members of the Moldovan delegation presented the strategic framework in the urban policies in the Republic of Moldova and emphasized the collaboration with international partners and the support of the European Union in the urban development segment.
ADR North director Maria Prisacari said that cities are important for the economic growth of a country and public authorities play a key role in supporting and developing them.
In the context of Moldova's integration process into the European Union, adjusting the provisions of development policies to EU directives and priorities has become an imperative.
"In this regard, the Republic of Moldova has approved the new paradigm of regional development, based on competitiveness, and the National Urban Development Program, the concept of urban public policy being incorporated in the new National Regional Development Strategy. Polycentric urban development is a relatively new priority of regional development policy in the Republic of Moldova, to which the central and local public administration authorities contribute within a participatory process aimed at implementing regional projects and programs", says Prisacari.
Krakow Congress is an excellent opportunity to promote dialogue on urban development, to take over best practices and experience of Poland in the support and development of cities, as well as to strengthen cooperation relations and establish bilateral partnerships. In this context, the director presented the most important achievements in the development in the North Development Region.
The 4th Congress on Urban and Regional Policy in Krakow was organized within a project of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy of the Republic of Poland co-financed through the Polish Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The event brought together experts and officials from several countries, who discussed practices in regional development and urban revitalization.
