Moldova's Customs Service receives 12 smart banknote counters on behalf of Romania

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Customs Service today received 12 smart banknote counters on behalf of Romania. The equipment is part of the project titled, Assistance in field of combating corruption – consolidation of the institutional capacity of Moldova’s Customs Service. The project is financed by the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry and is implemented by Romania's International Development Cooperation Agency (RoAid).
The donation ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Customs Service. Attending the event were the director of the Customs Service (SV), Alexandru Iacub and Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu.
SV director Alexandru Iacub thanked the RoAid Agency and the Embassy of Romania for the support provided.
„This donation will significantly improve our capacities of combating the illegal flows of money at the border, contributing to the prevention of the money laundering and to the consolidation of a safe and transparent economic environment. We are deeply grateful for Romania’s constant support in our efforts to strengthen the institutional capacities and ensure the security at the border,’’ Alexandru Iacub said.
For his part, Ambassador Cristian-Leon Turcanu stressed that this donation would help strengthen the control at the borders and combat the illicit trafficking of funds.
„The today’s donation does not only cover the needed amount of modern equipment at the customs posts, but also has a direct impact on Moldova’s preparation for accession to the European Union. An efficient border control is essential for the national protection and safety, as well as for tightening the security of the borders against the hybrid threats,’’ Cristian-Leon Turcanu said.
The value of the donation is of over one million lei.
