Chisinau, Oct. 18 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova State University (USM) rector Igor Sarov urged citizens entitled to vote to participate in the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum on 20 October. He noted that it is time to take responsibility for our future and not let others decide our fate.

He said "we are living in times that test our resilience, conscience and civic spirit", and "our best response, as a nation is to strengthen the rule of law and move firmly on the road to joining the European Union, where our rights and freedoms are respected and protected."

"We live in times that test our resilience, conscience and civic spirit. As recent history has shown us, the European path of the Republic of Moldova can no longer be stopped except by brutal external actions or by the maneuvers of internal opportunists. The tragic example of Ukraine is a wake-up call, a harsh lesson that I hope has woken up many of us.

Our best response, as a nation, is to strengthen the rule of law and move firmly on the road to joining the European Union, where our rights and freedoms are respected and protected," said the rector.

He added that every vote is a step forward towards stability, democracy and prosperity, and citizens must make their voices heard. "As the rector of Moldova State University, a teacher and a citizen of this country, I make a sincere appeal to young people and to all those of my generation: go out and vote! It's time to take responsibility for our future and not let others decide our fate. We have a choice, we have a voice and we need to make it heard. Every vote is a step forward towards stability, democracy and prosperity. Your vote matters!", he said.

On 20 October, Moldovan citizens entitled to vote are expected at the polls to participate in presidential elections and a constitutional republican referendum on amending the Constitution to facilitate accession to the European Union.
