Chisinau, Oct 23 /MOLDPRES/- U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement published by the State Department congratulating Moldovan citizens for making their voices heard in record numbers in the presidential elections and the EU accession referendum and expressing concern that Russia will again try to prevent Moldovans from exercising their sovereign right to elect their own leaders.
In the statement, the US official denounced Russian violations.
"Russia has done everything possible to disrupt the elections and referendum, to undermine Moldova's democracy, including through illegal funding and vote buying, disinformation and malicious cyber activities. As we head into the second round of Moldova's presidential elections on November 3, the United States remains concerned that Russia will once again attempt to prevent Moldovans from exercising their sovereign right to elect their own leaders," Blinken wrote.
He said the United States will continue to support Moldova's efforts to ensure a credible, transparent and democratic process on November 3.
On November 3, the Republic of Moldova will hold runoff election. Two candidates - Maia Sandu, nominated by PAS, and Alexandr Stoianoglo, nominated by PSRM, will fight for the presidential post.
