Moldovan electoral body accredits 19 observers for monitoring of runoff of presidential elections due on 3 November

Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today accredited 19 observers for the monitoring of the runoff of the presidential elections due on 3 November.
Thirteen people were accredited as national observers on behalf of the Promo-LEX Public Association.
Also, the following persons were accredited as international observers: one person on behalf of the Embassy of Ukraine; two persons on behalf of the Embassy of the United States; three persons on behalf of the European Parliament.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the CEC’s communication, public relations and mass media department, Rodica Sirbu, said that the people accredited as observers would carry out their activities in the conditions of the national legislation.
„On the election day, the observers will monitor the procedure of voting, the counting of the ballot papers and the results’ tabulation. The people accredited as observers at the first round of the polls can carry out their work at the runoff election as well,’’ Rodica Sirbu also said.
For the first round of the elections, CEC accredited 1,277 national observers and 784 international observers.
The runoff of the presidential elections will be held in Moldova on 3 November. The current Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, who grabbed 42.49 per cent of the votes or 656,852 suffrages in the first round of the polls and the Socialists’ candidate, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who picked up 25.95 per cent of the votes or 401,215 ballots, will fight in the runoff election.
