Prime Minister urges citizens to participate in run-off election on 3 November and "vote honestly"

Chisinau, Oct. 30 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean today urged eligible citizens to participate in the runoff election on November 3 and vote honestly.

"On Sunday we go to the polls and I want to clarify some things. Investigations by the police, the National Anti-Corruption Center and prosecutors have demonstrated the extent of stolen votes or paid and bought votes since October 20. It was unprecedented. I have noticed that there are interpretations and even manipulations because the criminal group is trying to tell people that here we are passing November 3 and forget about penalties and fines. I want to draw your attention that investigations will continue after November 3, November 4 and November 5 and they will not stop until all those who have committed crimes will be punished if they do not cooperate with the investigation, if they do not cooperate with law enforcement bodies," Recean said.

The official recalled that selling the vote is a serious crime and is punishable by a fine of 37 thousand lei. At the same time, citizens can be exempted from this fine if they cooperate with law enforcement bodies. On the other hand, Dorin Recean warned that "citizens who commit the offense second time cannot be exempted from the fine".

"People can be exempted from this fine if they cooperate with the police, if they cooperate with law enforcement bodies, but if they commit the offense second time, then they cannot be exempted from the fine. Law enforcement bodies are investigating absolutely all violations. This was proven on October 20, this will happen on November 3, so everyone should vote honestly," he said.

Moldovan citizens are expected to go to the polls this Sunday to elect the country's president in the runoff.
