Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has registered ‘’important’’ progress on the path of accession to the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov made statements to this effect, after the European Commission today had published the Report on Enlargement. The official stresses that there is no chapter on which Moldova regressed and that the level of preparation for accession improved.

„The European Commission’s Enlargement Package, published today afternoon, shows that Moldova’s efforts made in the last year yielded fruits. They are reflected in the important progress registered almost on each chapter,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.

Gherasimov noted that Moldova has recorded progress on 31 out of 33 chapters. In the case of eight chapters – consumers’ protection and health, education and culture, transport, environment, customs union, regional policy and coordination of the structural instruments, the right of the intellectual property, statistics – the country progressed better than in the last year.

There is no chapter on which Moldova regressed in the last year and the level of preparation for accession improved against last year in five chapters – energy, environment, education and culture, regional policy and coordination of structural instruments, customs union.

„Our success is outstanding and the Commission stressed that the progress occurred in conditions of unprecedented hybrid attacks aimed against our country and democracy. Certainly, we have much work to do and the report comprises a string of recommendations on the steps which we are to undertake,’’ Gherasimov noted. She offered thanks to all institutions and civil servants, civil society and business environment, which helped Moldova in 2024 to get even closer to the European Union.

Today, the European Commission adopted its annual Enlargement Package, providing a detailed assessment of the state of play and the progress made by Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Turkey, on their respective paths towards EU accession. The assessments are accompanied by recommendations and guidance on the reform priorities.

As for Moldova, the European Commission finds out that the opening of accession negotiations has been an important recognition of Moldova's determination to pursue reforms on the path of EU accession despite facing continuous Russian interference and the impact of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
