Fines over 3.5 million lei for committing "passive electoral corruption" offense

Chisinau, Nov 1 /MOLDPRES/- National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) has so far imposed fines worth more than 3.5 million lei for committing the offense of "passive electoral corruption".
According to the CNA, the offense is the fact of demanding, accepting or receiving personally or through an intermediary by a voter goods, services or advantages in any form, which are not due to him in order to exercise or not to exercise electoral rights in elections. The legislation in force provides for a fine of between 25,000 and 37,500 lei.
The institution is still examining the reports and will decide on them.
CNA also warns that persons who offer money to influence the results of an election risk from one to five years in prison and a fine of more than 50 thousand lei, while illegal financing of political parties from prohibited sources is punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of more than 67 thousand lei. In order to ensure the recovery of the damage, legal institutions may seize the person's assets.
