Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - Journalists and public people are threatened with death before the presidential elections due on 3 November. The police inform about a new form of attack through fake news. People receive direct calls or through applications, upon the reception of which a robot speaks.
According to the Police, a robot speaks upon the reception of the call and the voice of a public person is taken over through artificial intelligence.
„We call on the citizens to calm and we guarantee that they are in safety. We inform you that this is a form of attack meant to intimidate the media and public people through the creation of pressure and panic,’’ the Police said.
Law-enforcers urge the citizens to report all cases and the journalists who received or receive these calls should contact the communication team of the police, in order to register these cases.
„If other people are called – interrupt the call and call the 112 emergency number,’’ the Police recommend.
Following multiple cases notified by Moldova’s citizens, reading that they would be threatened ahead of the presidential elections due on next Sunday, 3 November, Prime Minister Dorin Recean has come up with a message, thereby giving assurances that the state’s institutions would ensure the public order and would protect the citizens. The PM urges the people not to be afraid and to go to vote on Sunday.
Also today, the Police informed about a massive attack of fake news received through emails and calls, with the urge to vote on Sunday for a certain electoral contender in exchange for a sum of money.
