Maia Sandu defeats Aleksandr Stoianoglo in presidential elections, wins second term as head of state

Chisinau, Nov. 4 /MOLDPRES/- After checking over 99.5% of the reports, current president Maia Sandu leads with 55.25% of the votes. Candidate of the Socialists Alexandr Stoianoglo has picked up 44.75%, according to the preliminary results of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
923,610 voters cast their ballots for Maia Sandu, the candidate supported by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).
Socialist candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo received 748,161 votes.
On 3 November, the runoff election took place in the Republic of Moldova. Current President Maia Sandu, backed by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), and Socialist candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo competed for the post of head of state.
The centralized information shows that 1,690,911 voters had turned out at the polling stations by 22:00, which is more than 54%.
