Chisinau, Nov. 6 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has clarified the statements by the Russian authorities about the elections in Moldova and reiterates that they do not meet the reality.
According to Chisinau diplomats, the Moldovan elections met all national and international standards, a fact confirmed by the preliminary reports of international election observation missions.
"The same reports welcomed Moldova's resilience in the face of the unprecedented assault on its democracy with the involvement of hostile forces from outside the country. In this context, we deny the unfounded criticism launched by representatives of the Russian authorities to manipulate public opinion. These clumsy attempts to question the legitimacy of the elections are nothing but the continuation of malign interference in our internal affairs," the statement reads.
It condemns these actions and considers them unacceptable, especially from a state recognized as an anti-example in the field of democracy.
"Commentators among the Russian authorities are not credible when they criticize democratic processes about which they have only theoretical knowledge. However, we wish Russian citizens to enjoy all the fundamental rights and freedoms enjoyed by Moldovan citizens," the statement reads.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on 5 November that several Moldovan citizens were blocked from exercising their right to vote and the Moldovan presidential elections were not democratic.
