Chisinau, 6 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will initiate international procedures of contesting the decisions of the jury, which led to the penalization of sportsman Marin Robu at the weight-lifting event at the Paris Olympic Games. Thus, the Education and Research Ministry will represent Moldova’s interests at international sports structures, including of the Court of Arbitration for Sport from Lausanne, Switzerland. The decision was taken by the cabinet today.
„Our sportspeople had outstanding results at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, getting six medals in all. In this respect, we believe that Moldova was in an unjustified way deprived from the fifth medal at the Olympic Games – the medal of Marin Robu at the weight-lifting event and we want to reestablish the justice,’’ Education Minister Dan Perciun said at the government meeting.
In this respect, the government approved the allocation of 1.8 million lei rom the reserve fund. The financial means are to be used for covering the taxes of the court, contracting the bureau of lawyers, spending for representation, etc.
Sportsman Marin Robu participated in the Paris Olympic Games 2024 at the weight-lifting event for the weight category of up to 89 kg, for men. The jury’s incorrect verdict allowed another sportsman to outrun Marin Robu in the final ranking, depriving him, in an unjustified way, from the third place and respectively, the bronze medal.
In the context, the Moldovan Wright-lifting Federation, by common agreement with the National Olympic and Sports Committee, submitted a contestation to the first court, the Technical Commission of the International Weight-lifting Federation (IWF), through which it asked for the repeated evaluation of the results of the Italian weight-lifter and the correctness of the decision taken by the jury.
