Moldovan president says Moldova to manage to develop with assistance of friends from all regions of Europe

Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in the fifth edition of the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), held in Budapest, Hungary, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state had more meetings with European leaders, heads of state and government, with whom she discussed the cooperation which brings concrete benefits to the Moldovan citizens and the joint efforts made to protect the democracy and Moldova.
‘’We continued the discussions on the European integration process and the economic situation of Moldova with the European Union’s leaders. We agreed to launch, as soon as possible, the plan on EU’s economic growth for Moldova, as well as to speed up the reforms in justice, in order to better protect the democracy and the country,’’ President Maia Sandu said following discussions with European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
Also, the head of state had a meeting with the European leaders on the strengthening of the institutions before the challenges faced by Moldova. Following the meeting, President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, PM of Poland Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, PM of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, as well as European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a joint declaration, reaffirmed the support for Moldova and the European integration path reconfirmed at the referendum from 20 October. The officials also condemned the documented attempts to influence the results of the elections through manipulation of information, corruption and schemes of buying votes.
„Through work, perseverance and with the assistance of the friends from all regions of Europe, we will manage to develop Moldova and ensure, in continuation, the country’s security,’’ the head of state stressed.
President Maia Sandu and her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the regional security. The head of state said that ‘’Moldova is with Ukraine in its fight for freedom and we are proud to advance together towards the common future in EU.’’
At her discussion with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, President Maia Sandu expressed gratitude for the support provided to Moldova and the Moldovan citizens who live and work in Italy. The head of state had also discussions with Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo, PM of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo, PM of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Luxembourg Luc Frieden, PM of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović, as well as Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset.
The European Political Community is a forum which brings together the European Union member countries and the ones from outside the EU area, in order to discuss the challenges faced by the continent. The inaugural EPC summit took place in Prague in October 2022 and the second issue was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
