Chisinau, Nov. 22 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), jointly with the Ministry of Finance and Chisinau city hall identified concrete solutions to pay teachers' wages in the capital by late 2024. The issue was discussed during two rounds of negotiations.
Following consultations, the Finance Ministry accepted the allocation of 123 million lei out of the 209 million lei requested by Chisinau city hall. It was decided to allocate an additional 86 million lei from the state budget, on top of the 37 million lei already included in the draft budget rectification.
At the same time, following the discussions, the city hall managed to identify 86 million lei from savings in other budget items that can be quickly reallocated to pay salaries.
"The decision to allocate an additional 86 million lei from the state budget was taken despite the fact that the City Hall has the possibility to reallocate, for salaries, more than the identified amount. However, taking into account the administrative and staffing constraints faced by the City Hall, which make it technically difficult to reallocate higher amounts at this stage, it was accepted to allocate additional resources from the state budget", MEC explains.
Taking also into account the experience of previous years, we call on local authorities to ensure an efficient planning of the resources allocated by the Government in order to prevent such budgetary difficulties in the future. Local public authorities need to improve their capacity to execute funds allocated from the state budget, according to the source.
The Ministry of Education and Research assures that it remains open for constructive discussions in the future.
