Chisinau, Nov. 27 /MOLDPRES/- Studying modern fruit production technologies and promising varieties, good practices of precision farming and adaptability to crises, and climate change were just some of the topics addressed by 30 Moldovan fruit producers and exporters during a study visit to Italy.
"The Moldovan fruit sector has been put to the test by major challenges - from geopolitical crises to climate change - that are influencing the fruit business and presence on international markets. It is imperative that we take on board and implement the lessons offered by our partners in Italy, who through state-of-the-art technical equipment, forecasts and market research, manage to hold a leading position in fruit exports," said Vitalie Gorincioi, President of Moldova Fruct Association.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) also stated that the most suitable model for the Moldovan agriculture development would be that of Italy, where the emphasis has been on the association of farmers in cooperatives. By joining forces, farmers will be able to face competition more easily, including at regional level.
"Cooperation is the only way to cut costs and increase income. Italy is the country with the largest number of small farmers, who have existed over time and are extremely resilient to all the economic storms of the world, thanks to the fact that they are united in cooperatives," the source explained.
The study visit was organized by Moldova Fruct Association, with the support of Switzerland (Swiss Cooperation in Moldova) and Helvetas Moldova, through OPTIM Project.
