Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - Three out of four kilograms of exported Moldovan grapes go to the European market. The share of exports to the European Union increased from 36 per cent in 2021 to 74 per cent in 2024. Instead, Russia has lost almost completely its importance, with a cutting of the share from 48 per cent in 2021 to as little as 6 per cent in 2024. The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, unveiled figures to this effect today.
The value of the exports of table grapes to European Union countries reached 627 million lei in the first ten months of 2024, representing an almost two-fold growth against the same period of the last year. The main destinations for the grapes grown in Moldova are Romania and Poland, Daniel Voda noted.
In 2023, Moldovan grapes were exported to 33 countries, against 23 countries in 2022. Among the new markets, there are: Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Lithuania, Albania, Serbia, United Arab Emirates, China (Hong Kong), Kyrgyzstan.
„This progress shows the quality of Moldovan grapes and the extraordinary work of our farmers, backed by the government for the accessing of new and competitive markets. The European Union continues to be the principal commercial partner of Moldova, supporting the country’s economic growth. Two out of three Made in Moldova products reach the single European market,’’ Daniel Voda also said.
In 2023, the export of table grapes registered a significant growth against 2022. Producers managed to increase the quantity of grapes exported by about 11 per cent and the value – by about 33 per cent.
Thus, in 2023, 84.55 thousand tons of grapes worth 75.67 million dollars (average price per one kg is of 0.9 dollars), were exported, according to data by the Customs Service.
