Moldovans holding Romanian passports to be able to travel without visas to United States as of 2025

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Romanian citizens will be able to travel without visas to the United States starting from the 2025 year. Romania’s Ambassador to the USA Andrei Muraru has made statements to this effect. He noted that Romania had fulfilled all technical conditions to this end, provided for by the American legislation.   

According to the diplomat, Romania in 2024 registered the lowest rate of refusal of visas ever recorded – 2.61 per cent; i.e. under the percentage of 3 % out of all applications for visas; this was the only condition which the country had to meet, in order to be eligible to enter the Visa Waiver programme.    

„The technical process of evaluation of the American authorities as regards Romania is almost finished. Just as I have said, we want the bureaucratic procedures to be finished as soon as possible and the effective entrance into the programme be made in the next months,’’ Andrei Muraru also said.   

The ambassador noted that the process of Romania’s accession to the American Visa Waiver programme had been extremely correct and transparent and Romania now meets all technical conditions stipulated by the American legislation.   

„Thus, the Romanians will be able to travel to the United States without visas as of 2025, giving this generation the chance to make the friendship with the American nation even stronger, the opportunity to build a more prosperous partnership,’’ the Romanian Ambassador in Washington added.  

During the 2024 fiscal year, the Romanian citizens submitted 80,596 applications for visas B1/B2 in the world, almost twice as much against the number of applications from the previous fiscal year. The American diplomatic and consular missions granted over 78,000 B1/B2 visas – a record number for Romania.
