In a phone conversation, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Moldova President Maia Sandu discussed the progress made in the project for a Bulgarian university in Taraclia and Moldova’s European prospects, the Government Information Service reported on Saturday.
Denkov thanked Sandu for moving forward his proposal for transforming the Gregory Tsamblak State University of Taraclia into a branch of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse. The two discussed that idea at their meeting in Athens in late August. In Denkov’s words, the higher education establishment’s development is of key significance for Taraclia region, where a big Bulgarian minority lives. The university is important for the preparation of highly qualified local specialists as well as for building a bridge to the Bulgarian educational institutions. Last but not least, the university strengthens the link of the Bulgarian community in the region with Bulgaria, Denkov said.
He and the Moldovan President expect an intergovernmental agreement on the project to be signed soon.
Sandu thanks for the Bulgarian support in Moldova’s efforts to join the EU. According to her and Denkov, the only guarantee for the region’s development and security is the region being part of a strong and prosperous Europe.
